Priceless antiquities, the heritage of humanity, were deliberately demolished in Syria as part of a campaign of cultural and historical annihilation. The representation of war in the current era, the age of virtualisation and communication networks, takes on a new role: a symbolic one. Through his representations, the artist uses painting as a metaphor and denounces the me- dia and governmental control of the war conflict. I think Haitz’s rich series of representations in- habits that barren space between what is shown to society through the media and what is actual- ly happening. It offers a range of points of view, making horror and devastation visible.
